We Proudly & with
immense pleasure seek to introduce our organization " The Belgaum
District Association for the Blind", a pioneer institution rendering
yeoman services in the field of education, rehabilitation & the all
round development of the blind children. This unique & benevolent
Association was founded on 27th April 1972 under the able stewardship
of renowned social worker & an eminent physician of Belgaum Late Dr. N.R. Kulkarni.
The Association, in
pursuance of its noble cause started the " Maheshwari School for the
Blind" on the Gandhi Jayanti Day that is 2nd October 1978, which today
stands as an unparallel institution for the blind children in the
whole state of Karnataka. The school with its vast campus provides
hostel, boarding, playground facilities apart from quality education,
regular medical checkup, uniforms & entertainment for all its inmates.
The 128 students from 1st to 10th standard enjoy all the facilities
totally free of cost in a one large family like ambience. The
salubrious & congenial atmosphere of the campus coupled with the
friendly & affectionate attitude of the trained teachers is conductive
for the growth of both physical & mental faculties of the children.
Skilled, qualified & dedicated teachers impart education through
Braille script & vocal training. To ensure all round development of
the blind children & to boost their latent talents. They are taught
music & are encouraged to participate in various curricular & extra
curricular activities. We are very proud to observe that the group
song team of blind children has won many prizes both at District level
& State level competitions & have exhibited unusual skills in vocal &
instrumental classical music. To make the children steadfast &
independent in current times they are given Computer education by
adopting specialized procedures including online training.
